Anti-money laundering and fighting financial crime

Aberdein Considine is fully committed to fulfilling its obligations under The Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds (Information on the Payer) Regulations 2017, the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 and other relevant legislation for the purposes of combating money laundering, terrorist financing and fighting all types of financial crime. This means that we carry out client verification checks both at the outset and at certain times thereafter and we seek to establish, where appropriate, the source of wealth and source of funds. We maintain procedures and policies relevant to this legislation and operate processes, both electronic and paper based, to ensure compliance with the relevant legislation. Aberdein Considine staff are trained in how to comply with the legislation and we may refuse to act if we have concerns. We are also committed to upholding the principles of the Criminal Finances Act 2017 and through our Policies and Procedures seek to prevent the facilitation of illegal tax evasion.

Statement of compliance

We, the Partners and staff of Aberdein Considine, value our reputation for ethical behaviour and for good financial practice and reliability.

We recognise that, over and above the commission of any crime, any involvement in the facilitation of tax evasion will also reflect adversely on our image and reputation.

We, the Firm, do not tolerate tax evasion or the facilitation thereof in any circumstances, whether committed by or facilitated by a client or any associated person under and in terms of the Criminal Finances Act 2017.

We are committed to fighting tax evasion and we have adopted vigorous policies and procedures which are in place to detect and prevent the facilitation of tax evasion offences.

We provide regular training on the requirements of the Criminal Finances Act 2017 to all members of staff.

We require all staff to demonstrate the highest standards of honesty and integrity at all times and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken wherever tax evasion, or the facilitation thereof, by any personnel has been established.

We undertake due diligence in all associated persons/companies to mitigate the risk of the facilitation of tax evasion offences and all appropriate agreements with third parties contain provisions to enable termination of such agreements if any associated persons/companies are not complying with the provisions of the Criminal Finances Act 2017.
