Aberdein Considine announces shinty sponsorship deal

Scottish shinty has been given a major financial boost after a national law firm renewed its sponsorship of both the sport’s reigning champions and its top amateur competition.

Aberdein Considine has announced that it is continuing as the main shirt sponsors of reigning Premiership champions Newtonmore for 2016.

The property, legal and financial services business will also continue to be the title sponsors of the Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup, the national competition for the shinty’s top junior sides.

The deals continue the firm’s long association with the sport, which now dates back more than 25 years.

Teamwork

Announcing the sponsorship deal, Aberdein Considine co-founder Harvey Aberdein praised the sport’s community roots.

He said: “Teamwork, community spirit and graft are the core ingredients of champion shinty teams – that has never changed over more than a century of competition.

“These same values run through Aberdein Considine and it has been a pleasure to support – and to continue supporting - the sport and the many Scottish communities it is an integral part of.”

Earlier this year, the Aberdein Considine also helped raise £14,000 towards the sport’s first all-weather training pitch, which is being built by Newtonmore.

Camanachd Association Chief Operating Officer Torquil Macleod said the financial support shinty receives via the Sutherland Cup sponsorship makes a “significant” contribution to the game.

”We are delighted that Aberdein Considine have extended their support for the Sutherland Cup competition,” he said.

“They are a long-standing partner of shinty and have made a significant contribution to the promotion and development of the game. We look forward to working with them again this year”.

Community support

Aberdein Considine – which now has 20 offices throughout Scotland – has already committed several thousand pounds to community sports clubs across the country.

It is an official sponsor of the Aberdeen Football Club Community Trust. Together with Aberdeen City Council, the Trust supports the schools league across Aberdeen. More than 700 local children take will part in the weekly sessions.

Aberdein Considine has also been the main shirt sponsor of Culter JFC and Bridge of Don Thistle FC for the past season and is a sponsor of Glasgow’s Pollock Juniors.

West Lothian’s Uphall Golf Club Juniors are also backed by the firm.

Aberdein Considine Managing Partner, Jacqueline Law, said: “For us, being a part of the communities we trade in is just as important as having an office there.

“We value our partnerships with these clubs and hope we can contribute, even in a small way, to the success they enjoy.”
