Living in

Perth

The Fair City enjoys an enviable position on the banks of the River Tay, Scotland’s longest river. Due to its location, the city is often referred to as the ‘Gateway to the Highlands.’ Following the decline of the whisky industry locally, the city's economy has now diversified to include insurance and banking. Today, Perth serves as a retail centre for the surrounding area.

Perth offers something for everyone, and although it is a peaceful and quiet place to live the city is known for its lively nightlife, with dozens of bars and nightclubs. Perth has a rich historical tapestry, with museums and theatres providing excellent cultural opportunities.

The town has a strong economy with leading development in renewable energy, health and transport. Perth is a transport hub to the rest of Scotland, with good road and rail links north to Inverness and Aberdeen and south to Edinburgh and Glasgow. With a choice of schools and excellent shopping and leisure amenities, as well as a professional football team, Perth blends the convenience of big city living with the charm and outdoor opportunities of a smaller town.

Crieff

Crieff is a bustling town nestled amid some of the most beautiful scenery in Perthshire. Just 18 miles from Perth, Crieff has long been a hub for tourism. Every year, the Crieff Highland Games unite the community as competitors from all over the world flock to take part in traditional events such as tossing the caber.

The town boasts a variety of impressive Edwardian and Victorian property and two primary schools, with secondary schools in Crieff and in Perth. With impressive leisure and retail amenities, the town is also conveniently located, with both Glasgow and Edinburgh airports just an hour’s drive away and Stirling within easy commuting distance.

Kinross

The attractive market town of Kinross is located just a stone’s throw away from the beautiful Loch Leven, the largest loch of the Scottish lowlands. Kinross was declared a nature reserve in 1964 and the loch attracts around 20,000 pink-footed geese every autumn. The town has become known for these more unusual residents, with a sculpture of a goose in flight at the entrance to the town welcoming the thousands of geese who spend winter in the area.

The area is perfect for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits, with miles of walking and cycling trails. If golfing or fishing is your thing, then Kinross is a fantastic place to live with several golf courses and lakes dotted around the land. History buffs also have plenty to enjoy here, as funding has been approved to restore the impressive Kinross Town Hall. Kinross offers an abundance of local shops and restaurants and good leisure amenities, with many lovely cafes where you can enjoy a bite to eat. The town is located just minutes away from the M90 and provides excellent transport links both north and south.

Pitlochry

The pretty town of Pitlochry is near enough to Perth to be convenient but far enough to give a real feel of living in a small, country community. The town is within easy reach of both Glasgow and Edinburgh and has been a bustling mountain resort since the railways arrived in 1863. The cultural scene is strong here; perhaps the best known is the Pitlochry Festival Theatre, offering year-round entertainment for tourists and residents alike.

For such a small town, the range of restaurants, cafes and shops is truly remarkable and there is a diverse range of retail outlets ranging from small, individual stores to larger, national outlets. Surrounded by wonderful countryside, it is perfect for weekends walking, cycling, or just spotting wildlife; deer, red squirrels and even golden eagles can be found here.
