For one of the most eagerly awaited (and feared) Budgets of recent years, the new coalition government had indicated in advance that their measures would be tough but fair. For the property market the net effect of the Budget provisions seem generally favourable.

Although the Coalition Government has suspended the use of Home Information Packs ( HIPS) in England and Wales, the Scottish Government have stated they do not intend to follow suit with the Scottish equivalent of Home Reports.

The news yesterday that the coalition government has suspended the use of Home Information Packs (HIPS) in England and Wales has been broadly welcomed by those involved in the property sector and will enevitably lead to pressure on the Scottish Government to follow suit with Home Reports.

Chancellor Alistair Darling announced in his Budget statement that the Labour Government will double the Stamp Duty threshold for first time buyers from ?125,000 to ?250,000 , with immediate effect for the next two years.
