Position Type: Full-time / Permanent
ROLE OF DEPARTMENT
The software development team is part of the wider IT function, and the team creates and maintains software services. The development team works with LexisNexis Visualfiles case management system, bespoke systems, and third-party data integrations to facilitate business operations.
JOB PURPOSE
- Lead the software development function in the firm
- Line Manage the software development team including multiple direct reports
- Manage processes including the software development lifecycle, Agile development, and developer behaviours
- Co-ordinate collaboration between teams and key stakeholders acting as a point of escalation and an enthusiastic advocate for in-house software development
- Contribute to development efforts when required including writing code, peer reviews, design reviews e.t.c
- Own responsibility for the delivery of large-scale projects, BAU development, and escalated support tickets
- Work closely with third-party vendors
KEY RESPONSIBILITIE
- Plan, execute, and monitor the delivery of software solutions
- Report on progress, manage the tools used in software delivery, and provide information and guidance when helping the firm to make decisions on development aims
- Educate, motivate, and encourage a team of staff across the spectrum of career stages. Be responsible for defining standards, enforcing those standards, and creating a high-performance environment
- Wholly own the responsibility for the delivery of robust, secure, and fit for purpose software solutions for the firm
- Manage and maintain relationships with 3rd party vendors
- Create and maintain deep working relationships with key stakeholders
- Contribute to development activities to ensure deadlines are met
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years’ experience with Software Development in a Legal environment
Desirable
- An IT management or project management qualification
- 10+ years’ experience with Software Development in a Legal environment
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- A background in legal IT environments or professional services firms.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Desirable:
- Experience with ITIL practices and service management tools.
- Deep product experience with Visualfiles and its ecosystem
KNOWLEDGE AND APPTITUDES
Essential
- Experience working in a Professional Services environment
- Good communication skills dealing with a variety of business levels both internally and externally
- Calm and level-headed nature toward conflicts
