Position Type : Full Time / Permanent

Due to the success of Aberdein Considine's expansion we are looking for an experienced HR Adviser to join our busy HR department.  The successful candidate will provide support and advice to the Partners and Managers on a range of HR issues, act as arbitrator between employer and employee ensuring both are represented fairly and treated in line with current legislation along with providing guidance and support to employees in relation to benefits, recruitment and selection and employee relations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruitment: Advising managers on recruitment and selection strategies, Carry out interviews. Coordinating the appointment process for successful applicants. Negotiating terms and conditions of employment with staff and with agencies, where required.  Contracts of Employment i.e. issue, return, personnel vetting checks, notification to Cashroom.
  • Monitor all HR inboxes
  • Updating and maintaining the HR Information System data
  • Providing advice and playing a major role in work reviews and change processes
  • Write and present information briefings on a range of HR related topics
  • Consulting on issues related to workplace relations, training and performance management
  • Providing advice and assistance on policies, procedures and legislation
  • Manage all paperwork associated with new starts (including recruitment process), transfers, promotions and terminations ensuring all changes are updated to HR Information System data and Cashroom
  • Payroll - log any relevant information in payroll spreadsheet, unpaid leave, additional payments, new starts and levers, salary and job changes, promotions, transfer, maternity, paternity, jury service, salary reviews and increases
  • Carry out Induction briefings
  • Ability to conduct grievance, disciplinary and capability investigations and hearings
  • 6 week checks and manage issues in relation to performance.  Monitor probationary period review dates and advise managers as they become due.
  • Maternity / Paternity / Adoption
  • Oversee / action invoices, expenses, liaise with Cashroom and update HR Expenditure and payroll spreadsheet
  • Deal with Childcare invoices , keep track of new members and leavers
  • Exit Interviews
  • Cover for HR Director, Senior HR Adviser, HR Adviser and HR Administrators during periods of annual leave
  • Producing reports, statistics and completing HR projects as requested by Partners/Managers
  • Keeping up to date with HR best practice and employment legislation
  • Attend Employment Law meetings on a rota basis
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of HR systems and practices (including streamlining processes)
  • Deal with any complex absence issues
  • Will assist with sensitive departures including drafting and where necessary will negotiate settlement agreements
  • Good working knowledge and experience of TUPE and redundancy
  • Working on adhoc Projects including coordinating and re-accreditation of IIP




  • Degree in HR or a relevant area, with up to 5 years plus relevant experience.  Alternatively, relevant experience equivalent


  • CIPD qualification or working towards it would be desirable
  • Drivers Licence

Skills and Experience

  • Generalist HR experience within an HR environment
  • CIPD Membership or ability to demonstrate equivalent experience (will be required to work towards membership status)
  • Experience in providing advice and support to senior managers on strategic matters
  • Experience in leading projects and implementing new initiatives
  • Good communication skills and experience of dealing with all levels of Management
  • Previous experience of complex employee relations covering grievance and disciplinary, TUPE and redundancy with the ability to identify and manage risk
  • Knowledge of People Inc and self service HR databases desirable, but not essential as training will be provided 
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and legislation
  • First class IT skills including all Microsoft Office Packages
  • Be willing to travel to locations across Scotland
  • Flexible approach to working hours where necessary
  • Exposure within Law firm would be advantageous
