Press Release: Aberdein Considine Employees Amongst First in Scotland to Achieve Masters in Advocacy

Two employees from leading national law firm Aberdein Considine are among the first in Scotland to achieve a Masters in Advocacy qualification.

Catriona Milne and Laura Dunlop, a solicitor and trainee solicitor with the firm respectively, recently completed the unique course at the University of Strathclyde and are part of the first students in the country to achieve the qualification after it was introduced late in 2012.

The course itself has been developed by Dame Elish Angiolini QC, former Lord Advocate and one of the most respected figures in the British legal establishment and sees students study a range of major aspects of the discipline including forensic advocacy in criminal and civil law, mediation, as well as the fundamentals of persuasion and negotiation.

Both employees will now continue their career with Aberdein Considine where they will be able to put into practice the skills honed throughout the course. Catriona, 25, who fully qualified in May 2013, is based in the firm’s dispute resolution department in its Edinburgh office whilst Laura, 25, will continue her traineeship with the firm in Aberdeen, working within the dispute resolution department in the firm’s Justice House base.

Rob Aberdein, Partner in Charge of Dispute Resolution at Aberdein Considine, is delighted Catriona and Laura have both achieved such a prestigious qualification.

He said: “At Aberdein Considine, we place a great importance on the learning and development of our staff and we were delighted to support both Catriona and Laura through their studies; their qualification really is testimony to the hours of hard work and dedication they put in to achieving this.

“The course itself is unique in that it is the first of its kind in the UK and I’m sure Catriona and Laura will have benefitted from the experience and insight offered to them throughout their studies. To have Aberdein Considine represented within the first batch of graduates from the post-graduate course really does reinforce our commitment to training and retaining the best young litigation lawyers in Scotland.”

Established in 1981, Aberdein Considine is a national law firm. A broadly based practice, the firm offers corporate and private clients a complete legal, property and financial professional advisory service.
