The following is an extract from an article which appeared in an edition of the Evening Express:

Family flitted across road to stay in area.

Kathryn and Gary Andrew loved their quiet cul-de-sac so much that when they decided to move 11 years ago, they just popped over the road.

The family wanted a bigger house to make room for their growing family, and raised their three children Sarah, 20, Hannah, 17, and glen, 12 in their Newmachar home. “We moved into a new-build on the same street 20 years ago,” said Kathryn, 42.

“When we had Glen we realised we needed more space but really wanted to stay where we were, so when the opportunity to move across the road came, we took it.”

And for the Andrew family, the initial draw to the area was that it was within easy distance of the city centre but with a distinct feeling of being in the countryside. “It’s not too far from Dyce and the city centre but it feels like we’re in the country – it’s a really nice village and has been great for raising a family. The cul-de-sac location is quiet and safe so it’s great to know that the kids have always been able to play safely – and the primary school is very good,” said Kathryn who works in a bar while husband Gary, 42, is a logistics supervisor.

With its large lounge, three double bedrooms and open-plan dining kitchen, the layout of the house has plenty of space for a family. The modern kitchen with a breakfast bar is an open, social hub and patio doors open on to the garden, which has been landscaped on three levels. And while the family have their sights set on a slightly larger house, they want to stay in Newmachar.

“We wouldn’t want to leave the village – this place is just home.”
